THE ISSUE

-Climate change is affecting communities in Washington D.C who already face great challenges to begin with.
-The urban heat island effect causes city neighborhoods to be 10 degrees warmer than surrounding areas.
-Fresh food is hard to come by: 4 in 10 families do not have the transportation to get groceries. Many places in D.C are classified as "food deserts".

REAL FOOD for all

We believe every kid deserves access to real, fresh vegetables, no matter where they come from.

"Real food" nourishes farmers, people, and the soil.
We've provided 2,500 pounds of real food to underserved young people and their families: we serve our school food pantry and The Homeless Children's Playtime Project.

We have partnered with Up Top Acres, a rooftop farm in DC (to source our produce, alongside what we grow ourselves) and True Food Kitchen to turn our produce into high quality meals for the children we serve.

Securing our future

We give children experiencing homelessness who have survived domestic violence the opportunity to play outside and learn about urban farming.

Gardening Education: Creating a space for marginalized children to experience the healthy mental escape of gardening, while instilling a love for science and empowering them to continue growing food on their own.

Vulnerability exercises: Encouraging these youth to be open and have the courage to share their thoughts and emotions. So that they can be advocates for themselves outside of the garden.

Art Therapy: Helping the children to express their creativity in new ways, and solidify a foundation for healthy escapes by going further than gardening
